There is a methodology of control using abuse, inparticularly of children to destroy one’s will and create a constantly vulnerable character which is susceptible to overt control and manipulation.
Inparticularly, sexual based trauma, of minors, which has been so prevalent in the world, and america, has created a populace of people who are susceptible to continued trauma and continued control. There are characters who know this and rely on this to keep a population force fed a specific doctrine.

Trauma is far too common and people finding the light and healing takes a lot of strength and work, because they were damaged at a young age.

This requires great discipline and can oftentimes not be done alone, and support groups may be required as well as intensive therapy.
